| Well, there it is - the remains of a snowmobile, parked for the summer. The owner spotted the fire shorty after it began and the snowmobile was right in the middle of the burn area. The best guess is that pack rats moved in and nibbled here and there... creating a short circuit for the battery that, according to the owner, would have still have had a charge. |
Gosh, aren't these just the greatest fire photos of recent times? If you look carefully, you'll see a sandwich being offered to the photographer/firefighter fellow. The fire consummed perhaps 3+ acres and almost got away, into the ponderosa. The Department's newly installed Elkhart Sidewinder (a remote controlled monitor nozzle) on a 6x6 with 1,400 gallons of water onboard, really saved the day. In the photo are: Joanne Krause, Bob Pallas, Tabby Calvert, Donna Jones, and Garret Jones. Joanne brought out a large jar of solar tea and Donna made ham sandwiches. During the worst of the fire, two attact trucks from the Dean Creek VFD assisted. Overall, Lavina VFD firefighters were at the scene for six hours. |
